Biography* | Aloysius was a mechanic in the Army Air Corp during World War II. After the war, he worked as an aircraft mechanic in the Cincinnati area, but eventually felt drawn to a religious vocation. He joined the Benedictine order at St. Leo, Florida, where he took the religious name of Brother Austin. When his father was ill and dying from Alzheimer's, Brother Austin received permission to come back to Kentucky to aid his father. After his father died, Brother Austin remained in Kentucky, living in his parents home. He found work at the Sisters of Good Shepard convent, where he used his mechanical skills to maintain the heating and electrical systems at the convent. Brother Austin was due to return to St. Leo in November of 1998 when he suddenly died at home. He is buried at the monastery in St. Leo, Florida. |
