VIRGINIA - Muriel Catherine Velten, 92, of Virginia died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.

She was born Aug. 20, 1912, in Chandlerville, the daughter of Ora Nicholas and Eva Lee Hager Brannan. She married Nicholas M. Velten in 1935 in Virginia; he died in 1995. A son, Nicholas L. Velten, and an infant daughter also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Velten was a 1930 graduate of Virginia High School. She taught school in rural Cass County schools for several years and, along with her husband, owned and operated Velten's Shoes and Clothing in Virginia for many years. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Parish and the Altar Society and a former member of the Virginia Woman's Club and St. Luke Round Robin Bridge Club.

Survivors: five sons, Michael Velten of Laguna Beach, Calif., Terry (wife, Jody) Velten of Arlington, Kan., Reginald (wife, Diane) Velten of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Tim (wife, Sue) Velten of Newcastle, Wyo., and Kevin (wife, Cindy) Velten of Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Luke's Catholic Church, Virginia. Burial: Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Virginia.
