Life Events

Birth*George John Boos was born on 27 November 1823 in Baden, Germany. Note: The other Boos family in Sandusky (9 siblings) came from Bahlingen in Baden, so Bahlingen might be the place of birth of George Boos, but I have not researched it yet.2,1
He was the son of Martin Boos and Rosina (?)1
Marriage*George married Catherine Miller before 1843.
Census 1850 - free*George was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census recorded 16 October 1850 in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio. Catherine Boos (given age 36), Sophia Boos (given age 6), Christina Boos (given age 4/12), Martin Boos (given age 60), Rosina Boos (given age 58) and Augustus Boos (given age 7) were listed as household members. In 1850, George farmed in Huron township with his wife and two daughters. Also living with him were his parents, Martin and Rosina. Also living in the household was August Boos, who immigrated with Martin and Rosina in 1850. August could be Rosina's son, but she would have been 51 at the time of his birth. More likely is that August is a grandson.3
Census 1860 - free*Chas and Catherine was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census recorded 26 July 1860 in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio. Christina Boas (given age 10), Sophia Boas (given age 16), Amelia Boas (given age 8), G. A. Boas (given age 5) and Mary Boas (given age 3) were listed as household members. George was enumerated in this census as Chas. Boas. He was farming in Huron township with his wife and children.4
Census 1870*George was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio, George and Catherine farmed in Huron township with four of their children.5
Deed*He bought property from John Osborn on 4 April 1872 in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio. The quitclaim deed was signed 11 Dec 1871, received by the registry on 16 Mar 1872, and recorded 4 Apr 1872.6
Deed-Text1*
Know all men by these Presents, that I John Osborn of the County of Erie and State of Ohio in consideration of the sum of Forty three Hundred ($4300) Dollars, in hand paid by George Boos of the same place have bargained and sold, and do hereby grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said George Boos his heirs and assigns forever, the following premises, situate in the county of Erie in the State of Ohio and in the Township of Huron and bounded as follows:

"Being Lot No. 29 Sec. 2 except forty (40) acres off the south side of said Lot which ever sold by me to John Dildine and except twelve (12) acres in the N.E. Corner of said lot which leaves Fifty-nine (59) acres in said lot which Fifty-nine (59) acres I sell to George Boos his heirs and assigns, also (13) Thirteen acres in the S.W. Corner of Lot No. 30 Sec. 2 in all Seventy-two acres of land, the same more or less. Hereby granting to George Boos all my rights against the Rail Road nearby said property.

Quitclaim deed signed 11 Dec 1871

Census 1880*George was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio. The official date of this census was 1 Jun 1880. Also living in the household were his wife, Katie Boos (given age 70), his son, Ameal Boos (given age 24), his daughter, Mary Boos (given age 22). George and Catherine farmed in Huron village with two of their children, Ameal and Mary.7
(father) Census 1900George was listed as a father in the household of Amiel Boos (given age 44) on the 1900 Census in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio. George reported that he immigrated to the United States in 1847, lived there 53 years, and was a naturalized citizen.8
