James E. Velten, 83, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011 at his home in Fort Wayne. Born in Lafayette, James was an Army veteran and a pharmacist with Walgreens Company for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, #451. James was a graduate of Purdue University and was a fan of Chicago Bears and White Sox. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Velten; sons, David (Mary) Velten of Winston-Salem, NC and John E. Velten of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren: Michael and Sarah Velten; sister-in-law, Mary Bessone of Pensacola Beach, FL; sister, Agnes Adwell of Sun City, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Blanche (Fleener) Velten; brother, Robert Velten; and sisters, Alice Penrod, Mary Clodjeaux, and Margaret "Peg" Barr. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd with calling an hour prior. Fr. Anthony Steinacker officiating. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery.
