Life Events

Birth*Valentin Weinert was born on 26 August 1750 in Niederburg, Sankt Goar, Rheinland, Germany.1
He was the son of Michael Weinert and Anna Catharina Theis
Marriage*He married first Anna Catharina Schinck, daughter of Michael Schinck and Anna Catharina Theis, on 23 January 1776 in Niederburg, Sankt Goar, Rheinland, Germany.2
Emigration*He emigrated from Niederburg on 16 May 1786. Their move to the Batschka was part of the Josephinische Ansiedlung (Josephine colonization) that occurred during the reign of Joseph II from 1782-1787. 119 German Catholic families joined the existing population of Hungarian and Dalmation residents in the Batschka village of Tschonopel. Valentin was listed as settler number 124 in the records of that village. Remarkably, he and his wife arrived without the three children born in Niederburg. The assumption is they died during the famines that prompted Valentin to try his luck elsewhere. There were repeated crop failures due to bad weather, with no central government or Red Cross to bring in relief supplies. A possible cause was the eruption of the Laki volcano in Iceland in 1783, which produced clouds of sulfur dioxide fog that caused respiratory distress, extreme weather variations, drought, hail and frost from London all the way to Prague.3,4,5
(Widower) DeathValentin became a widower when his spouse, Anna Catharina Schinck, died 2 January 1792 in Csonoplya, Bács-Bodrog County, Hungary.2
Marriage*He married second Theresia Werker on 31 January 1792 in Catholic Church, located in Csonoplya, Bács-Bodrog County, Hungary.1
Death*Valentin died on 19 December 1813 in Csonoplya, Bács-Bodrog County, Hungary, at age 63.1
