Mardella E. Smoot

Mardella E. Smoot, 73, of Republic, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at her home.

She was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Republic, to the late Florian and Amelia (Wise) Daniel. On Oct. 8, 1955, she married Raymond H. Smoot, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Republic, and he died June 16, 2007.

Surviving are two sons, Gary (Janet) Smoot, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Gerald (Nancy) Smoot of Republic; a daughter, Crista Heibertshausen of Republic; seven grandchildren, Matt Smoot of Fredericksburg, Va., Kyle Smoot of Charlottesville, Va., Melissa (Alex) Wolf of Upper Sandusky, Brian Heibertshausen of Republic, Lauren Heibertshausen of Republic, Beth (Cory) Fry of Bloomville and Nathan Smoot of Republic; and two brothers, Earl (Virginia) Daniel and Delbert (Nancy) Daniel, of Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Raymond Daniel; and a sister, Catherine Egbert.

Mrs. Smoot was a life-long resident of the Republic area. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She graduated from Scipio Republic High School in 1951. She also was a Red Cross volunteer, coordinating 28 bloodmobiles for the Republic area. Mrs. Smoot was a former substitute cook for Seneca East Schools in Republic.

A funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Paul Fahrbach and the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat Cemetery, Republic.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at the funeral home, with a Christian wake service at 8:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care or to Mercy Hospital ICC Unit.
