Er war der Sohn von Johann Peter Velten und Anna Maria Müller. | |
Einwanderung* | Michael wanderte am 28.06.1848 ein. As a young man of 19, Michael filed the documents necessary to legally emigrate, resulting in a notice published in the Amts- und Intelligenzblatte für die Pfalz published in Speyer on 1 Mar 1848. He left his family and emigrated to the United States, departing from the port of LeHavre on the ship Severn, arriving in the Port of New York on 28 Jun 1848. He then travelled to Ohio. Since railroads had not reached that part of Ohio by 1848, the usual route was to take a steamboat up the Hudson river into the Mohawk river; then a canal boat west on the Erie canal; and then a lake steamer to Cleveland or Sandusky. One wonders if Michael stopped to visit his cousin, William Backes, in Cornwall-on-Hudson.3 |

The parcel was 80 acres, the West 1/2 of North-West 1/4 of Section 14 in Township 2 North, Range 17.6 |

Deed* | Er verkaufte Eigentum in Reed Township, Seneca County, Ohio, am 4.04.1877. Michael Velten sold his farm in Reedtown to his son-in-law, Andrew Fritz for $4000. This was apparently in anticipation of the Velten family's move to Missouri. However, the Veltens were still living in Reedtown at the time of the 1880 U.S. census.9 |
