George Velten

George John Velten, 95, of Pierce City, died yesterday, November 19, at Aurora Nursing Center.

He married Stella Miller on June 4, 1940, in Pierce City, and she survives.

Additional survivors include nine daughters, Jean Stevens of Washington D. C., Margie Wormington of Lovell, Wyoming, Mary Moore of Reading, Michigan, Carol Blanton of Springfield, Karen Porter of Joplin, Delores Sappingsten of Granby, Donna Stanford of Cape Fair, Barbara Oetker of Monett, and Michele Velten of Pierce City; four sons, James Velten of Pierce City, Paul Velten of Seattle, Washington, David Velten of Springfield, and Thomas Velten of San Miguel, California; 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Velten, in 1965.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, November 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City with Father Peter Morciniec officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Wessell Funeral Home of Pierce City.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. today, November 20, at the funeral home, with visitation to follow.

George Velten

Funeral Mass for George Velten, 95, of Pierce City, who died November 19, were held at 10:30 a.m. November 21 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City with Father Peter Morciniec officiating.

Music was provided by soloists Tari Reeves and Madeline Ceselski who sang Be Not Afraid, Only A Shadow, Amazing Grace, and Peace Is Flowing. Organist was Mary Ryder.

Lectors were Karen Porter and Donna Standford. Servers were Ashlie Velten, Jennifer Velten, and Kimberly Velten.

Casketbearers were Mark Moore, Todd Moore, Jeremy Velten, Jared Velten, Nick Stevens, Travis Colley, Justin Velten, Josh Velten, Steven Oetker, and Matthew Palmer. Honorary casketbearers were Troy Colley, Shannon Sappington, and Bobby Moore.

Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Wessell Funeral Home of Pierce City.
