Immigration*Nikolaus immigrated to the United States, arriving 23 May 1889 at Port of New York, New York County, New York. He departed Hamburg on 10 May 1883 on the ship SS Moravia. He travelled with his cousin from Nanzdiezweiler, Michael Velten, although they were enumerated pages apart on the ship manifest. Nicholas gave Lafayette as his destination, where he planned to join his brother Jacob, who came to the United States in 1882.2,3 
Declaration - intent*Nikolaus declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States on 28 April 1894 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.3 
Unmarried*Nikolaus never married. 
Death*Nikolaus died on 14 May 1944 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, at age 71.
