Biography*The family applied for permission to emigrate tothe US in March 1881 and travelled in May of 1881. They farmed in Roosevelt NY near Hempstead on Long Island. When Ludwig died, his wife moved to NYC to live with relatives. Their son Chris took over the farm, but was shortly kicked by a horse and died. His wife sold the farm and moved back to Germany.

He was the son of Johannes Utz and Helena Dorothea Röhrich
Marriage*Johannes married Katherina Caroline Narr, daughter of Christoph Jacob Narr and Friedericka Häuszer, on 14 February 1860 in Auenstein, Heilbronn, Württemberg, Germany.1 
Immigration*Ludwig immigrated from Württemberg to the United States, arriving 9 April 1881 at Port of New York, New York County, New York. The family applied for permission to emigrate in March, shortly after the birth of Friederika's daughter, Emilia. They left Bremen, Germany, and travelled on the SS Oder, stopping in Southhampton before proceeding across the Atlantic to New York. The Oder, an iron hulled ship of the North German Lloyd line built in Scotland, had one screw and two masts and operated on the North Atlantic route from 1873-1886. In 1886 it was transferred to the Far East route and a year later was wrecked off the coast of Socotra.2,3 
Death*Johannes died on 21 May 1888 in Roosevelt, Nassau County, New York, at age 59.
